The Boyfriend List

Note: Yesterday I typed a post, but the stupid computer I was on completely lost it! I was too mad to type it again. So here it is, providing the computer works with me this time.

Book Review on The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart

Summary (courtesy of barnesandnoble.com):Ruby Oliver is 15 and has a shrink. She knows it’s unusual, but give her a break—she’s had a rough 10 days. In the past 10 days she:
lost her boyfriend (#13 on the list),

lost her best friend (Kim),

lost all her other friends (Nora, Cricket),

did something suspicious with a boy (#10),

did something advanced with a boy (#15),

had an argument with a boy (#14),

drank her first beer (someone handed it to her),

got caught by her mom (ag!),

had a panic attack (scary),

lost a lacrosse game (she’s the goalie),

failed a math test (she’ll make it up),

hurt Meghan’s feelings (even though they aren’t really friends),

became a social outcast (no one to sit with at lunch)

and had graffiti written about her in the girls’ bathroom (who knows what was in the boys’!?!).

But don’t worry—Ruby lives to tell the tale. And make more lists.

The Good: I honestly only picked this book up because Ally Carter recommended it. And it was good, and really well written. It wasn't as adventurous as Ally's books, but it dealt with real-life situations in a realistic way (I generally don't like books that are not realistic). Great story, the above summarizes it so well.

The Bad: No bad, really. I might've changed a few things had I written it, but then it wouldn't be the same story, so it really isn't relevant.

Have you read this book? If so, did you like it?

  1. I think I'll read it (if my dad stops reading over my shoulder. If he sees the word 'boyfriend,' into the fireplace the book goes! He thinks I learn bad things from books).

Sounds good, though! I wasn't so sure about it at first.

  2. LOL - I'm pretty sure you can learn more at school than any books you'd get your hands on!

I wasn't sure about it at first either, but it was different than I expected. And more humorous, although not necessarily in usual ways.

  4. Hey Chloe! Yeah, it's definitely not my favorite, but it's solid and I understand why some really like it.
